The project “Forests4Future” contributes to forest conservation and sustainable rural development in Africa. It is part of the BMZ special initiative "ONE WORLD No Hunger" (SEWOH). It contributes to the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100) and supports international processes related to the EU Action Plan on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT)
The sustainable use of forest products, such as fruits or firewood, can increase the income of the local population. The “Forests4Future” platform supports the partner countries Ethiopia, Togo and Madagascar in establishing good governance in the forest sector and promoting the restoration of tree-rich landscapes (forest landscape restoration - FLR). We developed the F4F monitoring platform "Digital Triple Level Monitoring" that provides data-driven indicators on forest disturbance or biomass, which are calculated on-the-fly via a cloud-based system. The dashboard offers information at three different spatial scales: AI based satellite image processing, drone imagery assessments and community based field data collection.
