Wall-to-wall mapping of wetlands and potential peatlands in Lao PDR and the Philippines
April 30, 2022MooRe – Multiscale monitoring of peatland restoration
February 21, 2023As part of the Forests4Future project funded by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), we are developing a "Triple Level Monitoring System" in collaboration with DFS (Deutsche Forst Service). The Triple Level Monitoring System combines forest-specific information from satellite data, drone data and forest inventories. Gained information supports local actors in evaluating the current condition of a forest within a so-called FLR site (Forest Landscape Restoration) but also supports reforestation and forest protection activities.
RSS conducted trainings in Ethiopia, Togo and Madagascar in July and August 2022. Here, local actors were trained in the use of drones to monitor forest biomass. The training included the use of flight planning software for data acquisition, photogrammetric processing of acquired data, and the FLR site-specific calculation of forest biomass by combining the generated data with specific forest inventory data obtained by DFS.
