New publication on peat dome surface modelling based on ICESat-2 data in Remote Sensing

Recently RSS completed an extensive peatland survey in Indonesia: 15 million hectares of peatland across Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Papua were mapped for the Indonesian Peat Restoration Agency (BRG) based on historic and recent satellite imagery as well as topographic data in combination with field measurements of peat depth.
For the implementation and institutionalization of the used methodology at BRG, two training sessions were recently realized by RSS. The latest training foreseen in Jakarta in November 2020 was implemented as a webinar due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions. Attended by staff from all BRG divisions and other relevant government agencies such as KLHK, LAPAN, BPPT, BBSDLP as well as BIG, the one-week training was a great success. The webinar transferred expert knowledge on peat mapping, satellite data processing, and peat depth modelling using a wide range of processing tools.
